What is a Product organization?

A Product organization places the user at the center of its decisions, aligns its teams around a shared vision, and fosters continuous learning to maximize impact. More and more organizations are adopting this model because applying agile methods alone doesn't always solve real-world operational problems.

Why carry out a maturity diagnosis ?

Identify your areas for improvement and prioritize your actions using the organizational maturity diagnosis Product offered by 5 Degrés.

> Identify your strengths and areas for improvement based on more than 100 criteria grouped into 20 key themes such as capacity management, the use of data in decision-making, solution design methods, the level of team focus or control of delivery quality.

> Benefit from an objective and contextualized analysis thanks to the immersion of our experts within your organization.

> Obtain actionable and prioritized recommendations based on their impact and implementation effort.

> Build a clear improvement backlog to accelerate your Product transformation.

Understanding the digital maturity assessment... beyond a simple audit

A digital maturity assessment is now an essential tool for any organization seeking to structure its transformation. It is not merely a matter of evaluating tools or technologies, but rather of measuring the company’s overall ability to align its strategy, organization, data, and product execution.

In most market-based approaches, this assessment is based on:

  • an analysis of business processes and their digitization,
  • an assessment of technological tools and infrastructure,
a measurement of digital culture and internal skills,
  • and the ability to leverage data to create value.

But this view is often too general. It provides a snapshot… without necessarily allowing us to pull the right levers.

Why traditional approaches reach their limits

Most of the content focuses on:

standardized assessment rubrics

self-report questionnaires

theoretical models of maturity

Outdated grids

These methods have one advantage: they allow for a quick assessment of the current situation. But they also have several limitations:

  • they often remain disconnected from product-related operational issues,
  • they produce generic recommendations that are not very actionable,
  • They don't always reflect the reality of the teams (delivery, QA, data, product management).

The result: Companies identify their weaknesses… but don’t know exactly where to start.

The 5 Degrés Approach: Linking Digital Maturity and product maturity

At 5 Degrés, the diagnostic process isn’t limited to a theoretical assessment. It follows a clear approach: transforming the analysis into actionable insights that the Product teams can immediately put to use.

The agency takes a deeply product-driven approach, in line with its vision: to view the organization itself as a product that must be continuously optimized.

In practical terms, this means:

1. A multidimensional analysis grounded in reality

The assessment covers key areas such as:

  • Product Organization and Governance
  • Delivery Practices and Quality
  • data utilization
  • strategic alignment

This approach aligns with industry standards (processes, culture, technology), but translates them into concrete, observable practices.

2. Assessment Based on Real-Life Situations

Rather than abstract questionnaires, the analysis is based on:

  • observation of practices
  • interviews with the teams
  • analysis of rituals, tools, and workflows

The goal: to objectively assess actual maturity, which is often overestimated by organizations.

3. Recommendations You Can Put into Action Right Away

Where many audits stop at simply identifying issues, 5 Degrés delivers:

  • prioritized recommendations,
  • a concrete roadmap,
  • and initiatives aligned with business priorities.

In fact, this is what emerges from the projects we’ve carried out: an assessment can result in more than 30 strategic recommendations, covering both organizational structure and product practices.

A diagnosis as the starting point for a sustainable transformation

A digital maturity assessment is only valuable if it leads to concrete change.

When done properly, it allows you to:

  • to clearly identify the organization's strengths and weaknesses,
  • to prioritize investments and projects,
  • to develop a roadmap aligned with the strategy,
  • and to improve performance in a sustainable way.

It is precisely this logic that underpins the 5 Degrés approach: treating the assessment not as an end in itself, but as a catalyst for product transformation.

FAQ - Maturity Assessment

How long does a Product Maturity Assessment take?

Its duration depends on the scope selected: the entire Product operation or a specific area such as Delivery, Discovery, or team structuring, as well as the number of stakeholders to be met with. The immersion phase includes interviews, participation in stand-up meetings, and a review of backlogs and processes, followed by analysis and reporting.

Who should be involved on the client side?

Key stakeholders in the product lifecycle: Product Management, Product Managers and Product Owners, tech leads, QA, design, and the business units that commission the work. The value of the assessment lies precisely in the comparison of different perspectives: differences in perception among teams often constitute the first actionable finding.

What are the deliverables of the assessment?

A quantitative assessment by theme, a list of prioritized strategic recommendations, and a backlog of improvement levers organized to maximize impact while keeping effort under control. The analysis is based on more than 100 criteria grouped into 20 themes: capacity management, use of data in decision-making, design methods, team focus, and control of delivery quality.

How is this different from an agile audit?

An agile audit assesses compliance with a framework: whether rituals are followed, artifacts are produced, and roles are in place. The Product Maturity Assessment evaluates the organization’s ability to create value, which is a separate issue. A team can correctly apply an agile framework while delivering features that no one uses.

Is our organization too small or too young for an assessment?

No, and the format is flexible. A growing organization would be wise to establish the fundamentals (clarifying roles, defining a medium-term vision, defining “done,” and setting the scope for testing) before habits become entrenched. The assessment can then focus on a single area rather than covering the entire operation.

What happens after the return?

You have a prioritized improvement backlog that your teams can act on immediately. We can also support its implementation: targeted support for a specific project, workshops to get teams on board, or ongoing monitoring of rating changes over time. However, the assessment does not commit you to any subsequent phases.
