5 DEGREES supports mass retail in controlling its supply chain.
#LOGISTICS⎪ #PATTERN MATCHING ⎪#GREAT DISTRIBUTION
Since 2018, 5 DEGREES has been working on the “PackDiff” development project with the IT department of a retail’s industry leader. The project aims to support the partner in their conditioning and packaging processes sold under their label.
Until now, the process required our partners to manually check the alignment between the information represented in new packaging designed and the product contained in it.
Our client, concerned about the legal risks inherent to this tedious and iterative process, asked us to develop and automate the current process.
The target wasto make the design of the packaging more reliable and to save time on the verification of its compliancewith the product attributes.
To answer this problem, our partner needed to be able to automatically check the compliancebetween the data present on the packaging and the source file (categorizing the product data). On the other hand, he wanted to be able to compare the different versions of packaging between them to meet the needs of the marketing teams.
To satisfy these needs, we co-developed with our partner a text/pictogram recognition and analysis software aiming at extracting data from packaging files (PDF) and source files, comparing them, and highlighting their differences.
Result: This software has significantlyimproved the reliability of the datarecorded on the packaging and multiplied the efficiency of the product compliance verification service through automation.
What’s next: In the coming months, we will explore adapting the text recognition model (now adapted to Latin languages) to Semitic languages with an additional constraint on ligature characters.
